A great, simplified, and easy to understand introduction into feminism. There are a few aspects of the essay that are slightly dated, such as the language that often equated biological sex to gender and lack of nuance toward gender. But considering this essay's release in 2012, it might be revolutionary for a person who has never identified with feminism. There were many points that would have been incredibly influential if I had read it at its time. Adichie establishes the significance of the label "feminist" (in a way that is very similar to combatting the "all lives matter" rhetoric), highlights countless double standards, and identifies how the patriarchy affects everyone.
