it was a nice read, but there was just too many missed opportunities. i guess if i took anything away from this story, it was that i'm more of an action girlie.

FIRST READ OF 2023!!

it was a strong start, and a nice conclusion to a trilogy i've had stuck in my brain for months.

the first book in a while that's made me feel more than just frustrated. sure, there were times i wanted to reach into the pages and slap some cheeks, but the way the characters grew and progressed and came together more than made up for it.

and honestly, it gets five stars alone for the pacing. absolute perfection.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 19%.
in the spirit of attempting to have a good xmas this year, i wanted to read something that would bring me joy and comfort. this book just wasn't that for me.

i found the pacing to be simultaneously draining and rapid. the mc was too unlikeable for this premise, and the author, while not a terrible writer, spent most of the first few chapters telling us her backstory rather than letting us live in it with her.

those are just things i couldn't stomach, and i truly hope someone else can find the joy and comfort in this book that i couldn't.

listened to the audiobook.

it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. the characters had a nice chemistry, and the narrator was entertaining.

that being said, I find myself conflicted by the ending. perhaps my expectations on romance are not unrealistic enough. 😅
