first 5 star of 2025!

this felt like stepping into a D&D adventure. i loved every character in this found family with all my heart, and i hope (though i don't think the author will) there will be more adventures to come. 🤞🤞

whoever said this book felt like howl's moving castle was SPOT ON! but also, it feels like a bunch of ghibli projects rolled into one.

tbh i'm not sure if i liked this more or less than What The River Knows. Some twists felt more like shock value than story elevation, but I was still there rooting for Inez and Whit to make it out the other side. Of course there were certain elements of their relationship that I wish were actually discussed, and there were parts of the fantasy element i WISHED were explored more. Overall though, I think I'm satisfied with the conclusion, and if the author wishes to expand the world more following other characters, I would not object.

i have come out of this story pleasantly surprised. i still have my critics of how certain moments were handled, but seeing nathan and katrina fight through their anxieties and finally come together was exhilarating.

Certainly the most confusing book i've ever read. that being said, the ending did get me.
