Definitely my favorite horror story, but the horror is kind of a lingering/creepy sort of horror (not jump-scare kind of horror). I love that Mary Shelley provides both Dr Frankenstein’s and the monster’s perspective, but since it’s a story wrapped in a story I found it a bit confusing in the beginning. Once you get into it though it just gets better and better.

I gave this book 2 stars because I feel like the quality of the writing in this book might be fine and it’s just that I personally hate the way Marianne was written? I cannot stand a damsel-in-distress character and if you can’t either then you probably won’t enjoy this book! In my opinion, too much of her identity in the book revolves around just simply being a victim and you don’t learn much else about her besides that so it makes for a character that doesn’t feel fully fleshed out.
Besides not having much of a personality, Marianne will barely show the tiniest hint of self esteem for the majority of the book so just beware that this might be a super frustrating read.
