This was so cool, so interesting: it subverted my views but was so fun and creative I just wanted to be along for the ride. I loved how he played with structure and I felt like I was lucid dreaming. Obsessed with how literary and fun this was

A next level crisis gone interestingly but not necessarily wrong? This was the perfect thing for me to read at this point in my life, page-turning and all. I did find certain sections of the book a bit weird where it touched on Asian culture, in a way where I just felt like the book didn’t rlly need it and it felt a bit offensive, but I suppose it showed how weirdly fucked up everyone truly was. BUT, the plot was good and I liked how unhinged everyone was. The ending was a tad disappointing, but just because I wanted it to be more crazy

Interesting, and I did like the main couple and the ending was sweet, but this could’ve been 50 pages and I felt like there was too much faffing around

The funny bits were great but the rest was a bit of a drag

A bit rambly and lacking in nuance but some interesting takes

Flat, shock value for no reason, I’ve seen it done better and I’ve seen it done worse but I don’t want to read crap so had to put it down. The plot wasn’t exciting enough to make everything else worth it.

Did it live up to what I thought considering all the rave reviews and buzz especially after the New Yorker list? No. But did I still find it an interesting and sensitive look at girlhood and complicated female relationships and budding complex feelings? Yes. This was well done but not a favourite by any means
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

Poetic, teaching and had a super interesting take on generational trauma and the influence that has on culture. I also found his perspective on the American dream and how that influenced white American culture and its influence on infrastructure to push down people of colour very insightful.
