Winging It by Ashlyn Kane, Morgan James

Overall I did enjoy it, and I think the best part is that the authors clearly know hockey well so it wasn't like most hockey romances where you have to fully suspend your disbelief for it to make sense. I loved Dante and the chemistry between the characters.
I think the biggest downer for me with this book is that I'm not really a fan of forced outings in these sports romance novels anymore, maybe because it's a tired cliche and overdone or maybe because it's frustrating seeing gay characters always forced to suffer for their sexuality in some way. I get why authors still use it, but that doesn't mean I always enjoy it.

Wild at Heart by Stacy Gold

It was enjoyable, the nature/hiking aspect was probably my favorite part and definitely what drew me in. I liked Evan’s character a lot, and really liked how he grew and flourished throughout the book.
I liked the hiking sections the best, and really enjoyed the beginning, it wasn’t necessarily a slow burn and you could sense the “miscommunication” mishap coming, but it also surprised me a lot and took turns I wasn’t expecting.
I didn’t feel particularly connected to the story though, I thought it was fun and angsty, but it just fell flat in many ways as well. The ending especially just felt like it dragged on and on, and it would have been better if it ended earlier and cut some of that short.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When Life Happened by Jewel E. Ann

This was a disappointment. I think I only gave it two stars because I like the author and writing is well done but the story line was cheesy and weird and I didn't like it. The twist that I was warned about definitely threw me off but everything about this was so forced and it felt too fake.
SPOILERS:
Falling in love within a couple weeks is okay once in a book but to have it happen twice, is just too much. It felt so unrealistic. Everything about the book felt so unrealistic. I think I said "wait, what?" at least a dozen times. It overall didn't make a lot of sense, I wasn't invested in the characters. To have one main character die, when you were starting to get to know them, and then introduce a brand new character all at the halfway point, makes it hard to ever really care for the characters.
The story sucked. Plain and simple. I still like Jewel Ann and don't plan on giving up on her, but I'm bummed I even wasted time on this.
