I am so glad I switched to listening to this on audiobook because it made it just that more enjoyable a read.
This is an ode to passion, ambition, desire, desperation, and the lengths some people will go to in order to get what they want. Oliver is a very interesting narrator, and the rest of the fourth year students (Alexander, James, Wren, Philippa, Meredith, and Richard) are all unique and provide a diverse yet somehow common voice.
I had an inkling about who ACTUALLY carried out the murder, but I didn’t guess the exact nature of it.
If We Were Villains is a different class of Dark Academia than what I’ve already read, and I’m interested to explore more like it.

Blood Over Bright Haven is one of those once in a lifetime reads. It’s a masterpiece and you may just never read a book like it again. The way it examines issues that mirror real-world problems, portrayed in this magical world is astounding. The emotions that this book elicited from me on the reading journey were so strong, there were times I had to put the book down and take a pause in order to really deliberate on what I had read. It has been a long time since a book has been able to evoke such a visceral response from me, and if this is the case with all of ML Wang’s writing, then I cannot wait to read more of it.

ARC Review:
3.75 ⭐️ | 🌶️🌶️
“And when you say ice cream…?”
Leaning forward, he reaches out … “That’s exactly the plan. I want to see how quickly I can make you scream.”
Tastes Like Sugar is a very quick, easy read that follows an age gap MM romance between Tom “Sully” and Michael “Hayes”. Their chemistry and connection is instantaneous and doesn’t feel forced in any way.
However, after a wonderful night together and a chance encounter the following day, it soon becomes apparent why Sully left abruptly the night before, after finding out that Hayes is one of the local firefighters of Collier’s Creek.
This short story follows the pair along as they navigate their feelings for one another, whilst also trying to figure out how they can make it all work with the “obstacles” that are in their way.
Tastes Like Sugar was a fun read that had some really wholesome moments, some well written intimate scenes, and a simple plot that just made the reading experience easy and enjoyable.
