I didn’t expect to like this one so much! It’s a Young Adult mystery thriller set in NOLA. The author did an awesome job of describing New Orleans. I could picture it clearly. There are multiple POVs and takes place in the present. 
 
I did guess a couple twists but there were others that surprised me. This was a quick read for me. Page turner. I was hooked the entire time I was reading it. 

It has strong female leads. It reminded me a bit of Pretty Little Liars which I loved. The Debutantes would be a great movie or even one of those limited series that’s so popular now. 

I recommend this book to anyone who likes murder mysteries, thrillers, parental drama, twists, complicated friends and a splash of romance.

Madwoman by Chelsea Baker

This one is definitely a slow burn but also very intense and captivating. I almost quit but the second half saved it. The writing style is different. There were multiple timelines but it wasn’t cleared until you read for a bit and figured it out. I prefer a date before the timelines change. It was written in 2nd person which I really liked! It’s unique and different but gives it a very different feel. 

This is definitely a powerful story about domestic violence, childhood trauma, the strength and healing of a woman with a couple of twists thrown in. It focuses on the dark look of motherhood and the choices we make. It was handled beautifully!

This one was a fun and fast read! There’s witches, magic, ghosts, time travel and of course love. It is very entertaining and a perfect cozy witchy read to get me in the mood for the fall and spooky season. 

I wish there was more regarding the FMC and the MMC relationship. It was kind of rushed—from meeting each other and then instant love. But I did enjoy it and look forward to reading more from this author.

Most Wonderful is a queer rom-com written in three perspectives. It is based on three siblings who are very complicated and their relationships. There was a lot going on with family drama and complex characters but it is heartwarming and has feel good moments.  I did find one of the siblings unlikable— more so how she was a bit obsessed with her love interest. 

The story did not have an epilogue and made me feel like I was left hanging. Perhaps, the author did that purposely so that readers could imagine the epilogue theirselves. 

I appreciate how the author blended the heavy topics with humor as well as the mental health and chronic illness rep. I have the chronic illness that is touched upon in the story and it was a great feeling to see it mentioned as I feel it is rarely ever referred to in novels.

FYI: Most Wonderful is an open door romance. The story is very character driven and there is strong character develop throughout the story. 

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys queer romance with a side of humor, family drama and steamy times.

This is my first Jennifer Hartmann book. Honestly, I bought it because I liked the cover. I had no idea what it was about. 

The book is marketed as young adult but it should be new adult. The topics are heavy (violence, gun violence, abandonment, murder, attempted sexual assault, death, dementia) and there are multiple sex scenes. 

The first half of the book was really slow and then halfway it was a page turner and then it was slow again. I don’t think this book was for me. It was very repetitive at times. I did enjoy the Winnie the Pooh references. So much happened in the book. Too much. Very dramatic. Far-fetched at times.

Megan Collins writes “stalker” really well! I don’t want to give too much away but it’s about a woman, Rosie, who is a recipient of a heart transplant and starts falling hard for the donor’s husband. It’s a fast-paced psychological thriller about female obsession and murder.

Rosie is a bit unlikable in the beginning. Obsessed. Naive. Not in touch with reality. But her character develops really well throughout the book and I found myself rooting for her. 

And just when I think I suspect who the murderer there’s a twist!  I did not know which character to trust. Well developed conclusion!

There’s also some Taylor Swift references sprinkled in which I really appreciated. Sorry, 47 year old Swiftie here!

Cassidy recently had her heartbroken and so her best friend gets her a job as an assistant for a Hollywood couple. Between the trio there’s lots of secrets and lies. Throughout the story it is alluded that one of her employers were murdered and but to u don’t find out who until about 75% in. The author does a good job of second guessing yourself on who the murderer is. 

This was a fun and twisty thriller to read. Every character is quite unlikable. Quick read. Sucked me in right from the beginning. The plot was executed really well. Recommend to anyone who enjoys quick, dramatic, juicy, twisty thrillers. 

This is my second book by May Cobb and I can’t wait to read more!

Fang Fiction by Kate Stayman-London

I am always down for a fun vampire read and that’s exactly what I got! The FMC finds herself trapped on an island among book characters from her favorite Vampire series. And it is up to her to help get them off the island and back to NYC. 

Keep in mind there’s also a heavy side in which the FMC goes on a journey of healing following a sexual assault. The author handled this really well and with great compassion.  

Sure, there were some cheesy parts but again it was fun to read. There was great character development! The FMC starts off as timid and running away from her feelings to embracing them and finally moving on with her life.

Great concept. Very creative. Well written. It kinda dragged for me in the middle a couple times but the ending redeemed it. Looking forward to watching the Netflix adaptation and reading book 2: Pretties
