This solidified that I am not an Alice Feeney fan.  The twist, while shocking (sure), was convoluted and largely unbelievable.  A good twist is lovely, but not when it's so far-fetched.

There were a few redeeming parts of the book that I would give 3 to 4 stars towards the beginning and middle.  The ending lost me.

I'm apparently just not a fan of these (incredibly popular) types of thrillers.  Weak characters, flimsy plotting, and the wacky twist that felt so bizarre and unbelievable - overall 2 stars.

I had a love/hate relationship with this book.  The writing was good overall, and I love stories about women going insane and the aftermath/rebirth that follows.  The main character was also a great parent.

I hated the raunchy/gross parts.  I am in no way prudish nor judgmental about sex, gender identity, sexual preference, or dog poop, but omg this was over the top and often felt unnecessary and like it was solely for shock value.  There was very often seemingly no point to the graphic detail.

Overall, good story with a lot of potential, but also weird and just gross in parts.
