Damn, this book right here might just put me in a reading hangover! I knew going into it that it was a bully romance, but boy was it brutal. The plot had great action, leading up to a suspenseful climax and quite an emotional ending, all the while still delivering some heated scenes. We are technically given an HEA, but it’s at a pretty big cost that makes it just shy of perfect.

Sigh 😞 I really wanted to love this as I am a BIG fan of HD Carlton and her writing style, but alas I found myself fairly underwhelmed with this book. Seeing as this prequel to the Cat & Mouse duet was based around Gig’s diary,  I was looking forward to getting an expansion on her 1940’s stalker romance, but this was painfully slow and too long considering nothing new happened. It also felt incomplete, as it never never hit a real climax or addressed the tragic end to Genevieve’s life; I would have loved to have gotten Ronaldo’s perspective on her murder and the resulting fallout. I think it would have worked better as a novella, maybe that would’ve helped with the plot redundancy and not so wrapped up ending.

Warning, the FMC of this book is a HUGE spoiler for the previous book by this author, “Monstrous Urges”. If you plan on reading multiple works of his, I HIGHLY suggest considering the interconnected timeline order.

Cole has done it again! He manages a true enemies-to-lovers mafia romance full of tension, both sexual and action packed. The only part that felt somewhat incomplete to me was the connection between the earlier attacks on the couple (at the engagement party & wedding), to the eventual main antagonist. I feel like I can safely assume that they were the one terrorizing them all along, but it was never officially confirmed during the final blowout. Otherwise this was a captivating, thrilling and spicy ride, and I will definitely be back for more from the author!

Holy mother of smut, this book left me speechless!

I have to be honest, going into this, I didn’t know how I would feel about reading spicy scenes written by a male author, but I was more than pleasantly surprised with Cole’s writing. The dirty talk in this book was unmatched. I just can’t express enough that it was not only the quantity of scenes, but the quality was top tier, chefs kiss, DEPRAVITY!

Smut aside, the mafia war and forced marriage plotline had me absolutely hooked and racing to finish this read in under 24 hours. There was the perfect balance of thrill and mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat!

This spicy, fantasy series was great! From Gods & demons, to cults and witchcraft, it had it all without being too over the top. It was a thrilling ride and had me flying through the pages, even though there were a few times it felt a bit predictable.

One thing Laroux did really well with this series is how each book sets up the other couples without giving too much away, and not making the crossover scenes feel redundant. It was as if they were part of a relay race, with the baton handoff of each pair's contribution creating moving pieces of the same timeline.

Of the three books, my favorite would probably be Soul of a Witch, as Everly was the most interesting FMC and I enjoyed the dynamic switch we see in her relationship with Callum. I found Rae, lead of Her Soul to Take, frustrating and a little flat compared to her counterpart, Leon, and thought it pretty inconsistent that she was a paranormal hunter but had a hard time believing in her own town’s lore. Juniper was our happy medium, our strong and vengeful heroine of Her Soul for Revenge with a much more colorful and confident personality, which opened her storyline up to delve more into the supernatural world Zane introduced her to.
