It’s such a fun ride. I really enjoyed it.

Pros:
-Likeable characters
-Fun bad guys
-Unique fantasy plot
-Dragons!
-inclusivity
-well paced

Cons:
-author attempts to be clever in  world building delivery, but it just ends up being an info dump distracting from tense scenes

-contemporary writing in a fantasy setting can take a bit to adjust to, but once you do it’ll only occasionally shock you

-I knew exactly where the love story was going beat for beat, and even guessed the twist, but the plot itself was so fun I didn’t care

There are some pacing issues. The action happens in short bursts separated by long dry stretches of scientific data and also nothing. The ethical quandaries raised are interesting, but it’s hard to really connect with them when so many of the characters are deeply unlikeable.

The foreshadowing and tension was done so well in the beginning, and I liked the characters enough that I ripped through the book quite quickly. But if you want a resolution to your thrillers beware. You’ll find absolutely no closure here. *SEMI SPOILER* After 300+ pages, the plot wraps up in just one paragraph with no answers at all.
