Savor It by Tarah DeWitt

Did not finish book. Stopped at 35%.
I was so excited for this, considering The Co-op was undoubtedly a 5 star read for me, and it’s probably my favourite romance book of all time. But I just cannot bring myself to care about Savor It.

I‘m usually not a huge fan of super contrived plots or plots that are just there to buffer the main romance, but this felt like it had absolutely nothing holding it together.
Sage got broken up with and her ex, who always wind in the town‘s yearly festival/competition, is already engaged to someone new, and Fisher was sent away from his restaurant in NYC to fix his image after an outburst. All of that is true.
But I just feel so far removed from the characters and the narrative. I was 35% into the book and I still felt like nothing happened. They still haven‘t struck their „strategic alliance“ as advertised on the blurb, and the things motivating both characters to do so feel like they‘re already too far in the past for me to care, and definitely not enough to carry over 100 pages of them basically just living next to each other. They don‘t feel like people, they feel like character ideas with personality traits and flaws/trauma sticky-noted onto them. There was so much telling and so little showing, to the point that I felt like I was being handed the core of these characters on a platter without anything relevant having happened to justify this blatant stating of what makes them tick.
Combining this with the weird pacing resulted in there being no tension between the characters, and me struggling to feel interested in what was going on.

I‘m super disappointed, as I had high hopes and was so excited for this to come out, but I just cannot bring myself to keep reading.
