I was loving this book until the author decided to use the “N” word. I read about another 100 pages, but I couldn’t get my mind off of it. There was no reason to do it. Just plain ignorance. I’m ashamed of this author.

This book gave me so many emotions. I fell in love with Fonny and Tish from the first page. Their love story is so pure. While I was reading the book, I was realizing how many things have changed and how much has stayed the same. I noticed how smoking and drinking was a common thing while being pregnant. I’m curious if a male reader picked this up. It’s still so sad that a black man has to me scared to walk down the street. This did have a lot of bad language and I hate the “C” word. But overall this was a beautiful and heart wrenching story.
