You know, I thought I didn't like this book much at first but I feel pretty bad for Doro but I HATE THAT MAN, I'm so glad I read Mind of My Mind first.  
I do have to say though, Anyanwu

is one of the best characters I've read from Octavia.  I think the moral dilemmas she faced were enough to drive anyone crazy, but sometimes all you can do is try to help in the way that you can and i applaud her for that.  the world is TOUGH, and seeing Blackness through the centuries was crazy through the lenses of characters that can literally turn white?!?!?!  
but overall once i passed book 1 it was a great read!

Honestly, gems were dropped.  Such a comedic yet deep and natural way to kind of show life after prison. But also just like lighthearted? I don't know i would LOVE to see it performed with people with really good chemistry 

also the way monty talks about food? YES everyone should be treating their art as delicately and thoughtfully as him.  when i make a meal i'll be thinking of his wise words

i absolutely love the pace and the genreless of it.  genuinely from chapter one, so many gems were dropped.  

the creation of this utopia to the journey of jam learning the history and grasping the flaws of this new utopia was just great.  simply getting rid of the problem and pretending it never happened does not solve anything, the root must be dismantled.  and like YES!!!!! and i dunno i feel like i'll be thinking, daily, of ways to get to the root of issues and try to rehabilitate and change.

I wish I could've seen this staged...the dialogue is so incredibly written and while showcasing the struggles of capitalism you gave plot too?!?!?! CMONNNNNNN i loved the fact that the scenes and settings were set by using the news and such.  it was such an amazing read, i bet it was even more incredible with a very talented cast

This play of poetry, song and dance is exactly what I needed to read right now.  It's true that colored girls will find this when they need it.  I personally found it to be a way to connect with my mother.  To better understand, hear and see her.  So much I can relate to and so much that parallels what my mother had been through.  It's a beautiful work of art that encompasses the different fractions of colored girls.  It hurts my heart but I felt incredibly seen. 

Waiting for Godot was already wild for my high school brain so THIS WAS CRAZY.  It was honestly such a unique and really accurate way to describe the relationship between Black men and the police. That ending was 🧍🏾‍♀️

Nah, this was tough.  I LOVED learning about the creation of the pattern after readin patternmaster.  Like yo F DORO and mary you ate that up.  But genuinely gluttony is one hell of a drug and power is a worse one.  Be careful kids  

Honestly, I found myself so intrigued by the overall concept and I am very glad that I've read it.  It's cause very provoking thoughts and conversations in my life and has led me to evaluate a lot of how I live.  

However, I think that the book itself was a little hard for me to read because I kept getting sucked in and then pulled out? I'm not exactly sure why.  But yeah, I also loved the idea of Black consciousness as fuel but that ending...

And is always **** white people :) 

I must say, I would like to learn more about Leroi Jones as an activist to know if his activism included Black feminism and the LGBTQ+ community because of some of the content. 

But both plays were incredibly thought provoking and he created such interesting world for a Black man to be in.  The scenarios were close to bizzare but not that far off to what could really be. 

The Dutchman is so frickin wild. Lula is detestable, Clay pissed me off until he didn't and then he pissed me off again. 

The Slave was not at all what I thought it would. 

But what is this fascination with his Black male characters being intimate with white woman :/

It such a hard start but once I was in, I WAS IN!

One thing about Octavia, everything will correlate to slavery.  But what fascinated me the most was the entire theme of control and connection.  "How free do you think you are now? " NO LIKE LITERALLY because now, how free are we fr fr?
BUT I ALSO LOVE the fact that to gain strength you have to essentially build a community of people that are like you...YES like minded communities for the win
