This book is a BANGER! Excellently plotted, full of intrigue, and a tense pacing and writing style that keeps me turning the pages. It felt like it was going to be too long at first, but then I didn’t want it to end. It was compelling in the beginning, but the halfway point really set it on fire for me and I was furiously devouring it. I loved the mix of documentary style and first person account

Compelling and generally well written-- this was absorbing, emotional, horrifying, with moments of lightness that gave a peek into a show I loved

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

Did not finish book. Stopped at 63%.
I like Jimenez's writing a lot and I wanted to like this, but MY GOD the character choices and the ableist and super stereotypical binary language sent me over the edge. Jason's character was seemingly wonderful, but he started coming off so desperate and
when he bought the ring right after they had had a huge fight, I quit

Also Sloan going camping wearing
a g string and them having sex in the tent COME ON

Also, the consistent use of crazy, insane, and lunatic to describe characters, especially female characters, was not it. And if I had to hear one more time about how manly Jason is I was going to scream. Thank you and good day

I really enjoyed this peek into a multigenerational story of toxic masculinity and family trauma told through 4 male perspectives intertwined through history. Very character driven, but I was lost in their stories. I also learned a ton about Filipino and Filipino-American history
