Bird Box by Josh Malerman
3.0
Bird Box is definitely not a perfect book by far and I enjoyed the movie more than the book (probably because of Sandra Bullock) but I still liked the book. It was a unique concept that I haven’t seen in a book in a long time. It confused me at some points but it still managed to suck me into the story.
Under the Dome by Stephen King
4.0
A lot happens in this book. I mean a lot! I mean a dome is place over there town but so much is happening with the characters that you don’t even question the dome. There are a lot of graphic scenes that can be triggering, but that shouldn’t be a surprise considering it’s a Stephen King novel.
Divergent by Veronica Roth

This was honestly one of my least favorite YA dystopian novels that I have read. Tris, the main character is unlikeable and doesn’t really have any really good redeeming qualities. Four is just a bland hunk who is just there to - what make the character fall in love? Plus, the whole story doesn’t really make sense because everyone has multiple personality traits but in this book it’s illegal to have more than one. Definitely not a favorite, but not the worst.
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
4.0
I was surprised that I liked this book as much as I did. By no means is it the best YA dystopian series out there but it is still pretty good. I watched the movie before hand and that really helped to get a better picture while I was reading the book. Some things in it are confusing but what I really liked is that it was something that I could see truly happening. I feel like that’s the mark of a truly good dystopian novel. For example, in no way shape or form could I see something like divergent happening but The Maze Runner - definitely. The government putting children in a maze as test subjects for a cure. I’m honestly surprised that the government hasn’t done that already.
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

Definitely not one of the best books that I have read but it kept me reading. It was like once I started I couldn’t stop. I think maybe it was because of the story itself. The entire book felt like a preface, with countless foreshadowing without the actual story starting. It just felt as if I was waiting and waiting for something, and I didn’t know what because it never happened. On top of that, I watched the movie and enjoyed it but I was left confused and so when I found out there was a book I thought I’d get some answers but I just left more confused. I’ll give it tho though - it has some amazing quotes.
Room by Emma Donoghue

I love this book so much (and the movie isn’t bad either.). I think it’s amazing when a book is sad and painful but still manages to give you hope. I read this book a while back in class and we learned about the real life case that inspired this book and the book manages to stand on its own without you even having to know that there was an actual case that inspired it. I think one of my favorite things in the book is how when the mom starts getting upset the reader starts to feel that too.
For example, her family makes a big deal about her sons long hair and the fact that he’s still breastfeeding, the mom of course doesn’t think it’s a big deal because she and her son were locked away for seven years. Long hair and breastfeeding doesn’t even clock on her radar. Anyways, this is an amazing book and you should definitely check it out if you haven’t already.

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

I adored the film when I was younger and I enjoyed the book just the same as an adult.its sweet and wonderful and I think that maybe if everyone was a little big like the main character, the world might be a better place. She so kind to everyone and she lives in her own imagination. Truly, a wonderful book.
Roses by Moonlight by Nicola Mar

Before I really get into the review, let me just say that I did enjoy reading this book. I adore poetry and it’s it’s hard to disappoint me with poetry. But with this book, even though I enjoyed it, it was rather simple. Almost more of a bunch of fortune cookies than a book of poetry. It’s a quick read and could be considered boring to some but I still liked it. It would be at the top of my recommendations but I still would recommend it.
Coraline by Neil Gaiman
3.0
I try to not have any expectations when I start a new book, especially when I’ve seen the movie the book is on. But I couldn’t stop myself from having high expectations when it came to Coraline. I just love the movie so much so I thought I’d feel the same about the book. I’m not saying it’s bad but it was very fast paced and certain things weren’t built up in the way that they should have. Although, I did really enjoy the ending.
A Murder Is Announced by Agatha Christie
4.0
I didn’t know what to expect going into this book. The only other book that I’ve read by Agatha Christie is And Then There Were None which happens to be my favorite book. This is the first actual detective book that I’ve read and it has left a pretty good impression. And Then There Were None is my favorite book and I was sort of expecting the same from A Murder Is Announced. Suffice to say, I was wrong. It’s more of a detective book which threw me for a loop. I still really did enjoyed it, though. At times there were so many characters to remember and exactly what was happening, but once you catch up it’s easier to follow. In my opinion, it really is a good crime/mystery novel.
