The beginning of this book was promising. I really really wanted to enjoy it but all through the middle and ending, it was nothing but very badly done resolutions. I don’t think it’s SJM’s fault necessarily. I think it’s more that her editing team is starting to notice that more and more people are liking her books and so they don’t try as hard. I hate that because I know that she can write good books, but sadly this wasn’t it. Bryce and Hunt fell flat, their romance didn’t feel any good, Lidia and Ruhn also. I did enjoy Tharion and Ithan tho. They had way more interesting things happening to them. Lidia as a character is excellent, but I am not convinced when it comes to her and Ruhn’s dynamic. Lately, SJM’s romances have been feeling more forced than actual angst that we saw in Manon and Dorian and Aelin and Rowan. I just… WHY!!!!

I didn’t really care, sadly. Sometimes the emotions of the characters got too caught up in the flowery writing. I wanted to care for the characters but I didn’t feel great about it. Something I felt while listening to this was that the author really really really wanted us to understand what she was trying to say but as soon as we started to get an inkling she took it away and I fucking despised that. Maybe someday I’ll understand? Idk, 10/10 for the writing tho!
White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Did not finish book. Stopped at 5%.

I decided to try to read this because someone was talking about how this book was the ultimate romance in classics and I was like “oh yeah sure, like someone could beat Austen or Charolette Brontë”. And I was right. No one in classics can beat them. The romance in this was bullshit. This author could not write women. The romance was so stupid with the pages I read. Anyway. Not for me

Rebecca Mix did not deserve all that abuse. This book had an amazing exploration of trauma and a wonderful romance.

I'm not a huge fan of this ending. I see what Jen Williams was doing, but I don't really appreciate how she handled Noon in the end. I know that in the end, Williams was trying to say "THE JURE'LIA ARE FUCKING TERRIBLE", but like, ma'am, you could not have done that to Tor and Noon...
