Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
2.0
I was honestly a bit disappointed that I didn't enjoy this, since everyone else seems to. I honestly just think it was way too slow, and I feel like the plot was quite predictable. I also found it very hard to understand which characters were which, due to the Russian naming system. I found some parts more interesting than others, but I cannot say I enjoyed reading this, maybe I just didn't understand it... :(
Pamela; Or, Virtue Rewarded Volume 1 by Samuel Richardson
2.5
This was in some ways very interesting, and I found it was very fun to discuss this in class, but it was also extremely slow and repetetive. So I would probably not recommend this as a "fun" read, but interesting to look at in an academic context.
Winter by Ali Smith
5.0
This was a bit slower to get into, compared to Autumn, but when all the characters were "presented" it was so good. I love the focus Smith puts on art, politics, emotions, family and love. And I also really enjoy that every character has deep flaws, it makes them feel very real. Can't wait to read spring, when that season rolls around... :)
The Quiet Tenant by Clémence Michallon

This was so eerie and thrilling. I was on the edge of my seat to see how it ended, and I am a bit conflicted as to what I thought. In one way it was a bit anticlimactic, but it was also nice, idk haha. Would recommend.
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
5.0
Wow! Kristin really knows how to write. This was a little slow in the beginning, but around halfway it was impossible to put down. The ending might be a little "unrealistic", but I really liked it regardless. It was so touching and made me cry. The characters felt so real and the setting was just gorgeous. Would 100% recommend. And I'm on a mission to read more Kristin Hannah books.
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion
2.0
It feels a bit weird rating a memoir so low, but I honestly just did not enjoy Didions writing style. I feel like the whole book was very repetetive with a big focus on medical aspects instead of emotional ones(?). So sadly, this didn't really impact me as I expected.
In Memoriam by Alice Winn
2.0
I'm quite sad that I didn't enjoy this. I found it very slow and struggled to connect to these characters. Some parts had me more intrigued, but I was mostly rushing for it to be over :(
Galatea by Madeline Miller
4.0
This short story was hard hitting and thought provoking. I also found that Millers acknowledgements added a lot to the story. Can be read in one sitting.
Dead Poets Society by N.H. Kleinbaum
4.0
The academic setting reminded me a lot of Looking for Alaska and The secret history. The ending came as quite the surprise for me, but also made sense. Very interesting to read a book based on a movie, instead of the other way. I watched the movie after reading and the book encaptures the movie very nicely.
Study for Obedience by Sarah Bernstein
2.0
This is quite an odd book. I think the writing style was nice, but found myself confused and zoning out a lot due to lack of plot(?). I feel like it was a bit too "metaphorical", and too short to make those metaphors clear enough for the reader. The ending didn't really do anything for me either.
