I love when a story gets me so excited that I spend hours on Google once I've finished the book. This gorgeously written braided tale weaves between the stories of two brave girls--one following a 12th century mapmaker and the other fleeing war in modern Syria. Laced with legends, political history, and geography, the stories of these two young heroines point to astonishing accomplishments of the past and horrendous disruption and desperation in the present. By a Syrian American author, this novel is lusciously written and deserves to be widely read. I hope it will inspire other western readers to research and appreciate Arab history.
