City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

I choose to look past the terrible writing because Cassandra did come up with an interesting storyline that has lots of potential. I really do like the whole Shadow World concept, so that alone keeps me interested. I can’t give it more than 3 stars though.
However, her writing at times is just sooooo bad. And perhaps it’s hard for me to turn off my critical eye since I work in tech as a writer/editor, but the grammatical errors alone were everywhere, and her detail at times is either too gaudy and over the top or just plain dumb. Something about the armory looking exactly how she (clary) pictured an armory would look like? Like what ??? Why did she even write that

To think I truly was going to give this at least a 3-4 star rating. Probably a four
And then the author had to go and ruin it with that shitty ending. I regret all the time I wasted reading that book. She pulled on “Amy” on me. Toyed with me the whole story just for it to fall flat.
Disappointed is an understatement.

DNF. I really wanted to get into this book but couldn’t. I’ll try and pick it up another time and maybe I’ll change my review. 50 pages in and it was just cringy.
Wrecked by Anna Davies

I am so disappointed in this book. It really had potential, and a lot of it!! I gave this book two stars because while it did have me intrigued throughout the entire book, we were never really given in depth descriptions about betwixtmen, merpeople, and Down Below life. Every mermaid book is different so I like to have a good description about the creatures I am reading about. Also, the ending was so terrible I almost threw my Nook at the wall, and that thing is my life so I was pretty pissed. How can the author string us along the entire book for something that shitty? I mean Davies has us so worked up with all the rising action with Sephie and the drama going on constantly with Miranda and her surviving friends and their families. The drama was good, immature, but realistic. Very realistic to 17-18 year olds. I am also a 17 year old senior like Miranda and her friends, and instead of South Carolina, (where I have visited many times), I am from North Carolina mid-coastal region. Not sure if the author is actually from SC, but I was not happy with her description of the state. South Carolina beaches are BEAUTIFUL. I feel she did not give the island credit and if she would have really got into detail it would have made the scenery more interesting instead of just seeming like a creepy isolating island. The book was very intriguing with everything going on, I could not believe the outrageous ending. The ending made me reading the book a waste of time. If the author would have focused more on the creatures down below and that life, and less on Miranda and her bitchy friends complaining twenty-four seven, the book would have been better. I do not recommend this book, because you will ultimately be let down.
