I really enjoyed this book! It was a great next read from the powerless series. I do think that in the beginning any of crossed out text could be explained better, I did have to google it just to understand what it meant. Will be continuing the series.
Behind spoiler reactions to ending!! UMMM I AM NOT OK WITH THIIS ENDING KITT IS JUST LIKE HIS FATHER BUT 100 TIMES WORSE I recommend having something to scream into or punch (maybe a little bit of both) when you get to this ending. JUST KNOW I GAVE YOU A WARNING!!!! WILL I EVER RECOVER FROM THIS??? I GUEESS I AHVE TO WAIT UNTI,.L APRIL OF 2025 TO FIND OUT. Other then the ending I enjoyed this book and set a new personal record for finishing a book: 2 days. I do feel like the writing was lacking in some spots (compared to powerless) however there is MANY instances where Lauren's writing is just incredible. Spoiler for how plot develops I do understand the complains of more of a build up to Kai and Payton meeting and while I semi agree with this I did enjoy the struggles of getting back to the kingdom. Overall, I would say if you enjoyed powerless this would be a great next read. Before this book came out I was in a reading slump after finishing powerless, this might be my last review until April....
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
5.0
this is my first five star read. This book is just truly amazing. I truly have so much to say about this book, but I don’t even know where to start. Kai and Peyton’s friendship relationship whenever you wanna call it is so well written. The world building and character building is also so good as well. I also really enjoyed how the sub plot wasn’t just there for the fun of it. It actually had meaning. (partial spoiler behind a spoiler.) THE LAST FIVE% OF THE BOOK HAD MY JAW ON THE FLOOR
This book helped me understand what grief that i had looked like and gave me a lot if quotes that touch on grief to help me through the process. I loved this book my only big complaint is it took me a few chapters to understand what POV i was reading from. Im glad the author didn't have Emory get back with gage after he did what he did. Why this book isn't a five star for me is because i feel like it was missing something.
The first 20% I would say is just character development and little to no plot. However after getting past the first 20% its becomes a good mix and I just couldn’t put it down.
