It's a reflection on patriarchy and womanhood. The main character represents the new world in which they live through her aloofness and not knowing men, while the rest of the women represent women in our society and how they remember the world they once lived in with nostalgia and melancholy and how they pity her for not knowing how their world was, and what they thought was happiness.
It doesn't only reflect on patriarchy but it also gives a hint on that maybe women when left alone won't live the best lives and maybe men have an importance in life and the two sexes create balance together.
     Witty, reflective and human.

This book is so dark and triggering, proceed with caution.
The way it describes the societies reaction to the rape is so frustrating, you want to kick the system between the legs. The choice of words and how Joyce Carol Oats writes is so sharp, precise and painful. It feels so true. Even when we think that nowadays we know better, there are still so icky voices. Some people could never understand.
I didn't like Dromoor. U didn't like how "justice" came to be. But Tina deserved the happy ending, and her daughter needs better.
     Sharp, true and precise.

The way the book brought up the connection between food and human emotions and experiences and how that affects how we taste flavours and love a certain dish when someone makes it for us but not from another.
The quest to relive an emotion through food and that only fate and will can make you find the restaurant, because you're ment to makes the stories feel more like tales.
The translation was good and the description of dishes makes you taste the food in your mouth.
Overall a beautiful and unique experience.

The beginning was good and the first half delivered, but then it started feeling like the author was throwing tropes and trying to make the main characters something that they are not. It was annoying at times.
