This book is an important tome and could be used as a film textbook, as it is so full of info and insight. Means Coleman and Harris combine their knowledge of Black Horror to dizzying heights. I only wish that The Blackening was already out when this book was written because it is a strong example for multiple kinds of Black Horror representation that the final chapter was leading toward.
Side note: I did find the comedic asides distracting at times because they often meandered away from the topic at hand. Having dyslexia, I found this more of a stumbling block than I would have liked. The book overall is so good that I didn't let this issue clouds a 5 star rating, but worth knowing about it.
Lastly: the visual nature of this book, with photos and tables and segments, etc, is a lot so I highly recommend this nonfiction book to be read without an audiobook if possible. I switched from the audiobook pretty quickly and that's my preferred nonfiction mode of reading. The layout of the book is pretty unique and I'm glad to have read its physical form.
Micaiah Johnson is one of my favorite authors currently writing scifi. Those Beyond the Wall is an intense read, one that is felt deeply, and it is surprisingly satisfying for a sequel that doesn't drop the first book's protagonist into the mix until 100 pages in. It's excellent and the diversity of characters hits the mark again. Read these books!
This is my favorite Molly Knox Ostertag book! There is so much Sapphic love and kissing. Yes please! Such a beautiful story and endearing characters. Read this now.
A wonderful conclusion to a great trilogy. So much care and emotional work is put into the relationships this go around. Talk about ending on a high note. Read this series.
Keeping Finance Personal is a deprogramming and recreating book, so the more you put into this process, the more you get out. This is the kind of finance book we should have been given in high school. There's no time like the present to change your story. Exciting stuff.
I listened to the audiobook, read by the author. I intend to revisit in print at some point.
The Hidden Witch brings the excitement of the first book and adds tons of really lovely character development, often focused on redemption. Can't wait to read the last one now! Fantastic story and characters.
The Witch Boy is fabulous. There is plenty of positive messaging and it is also a riveting story about humans limiting magick by making restrictive rules.
Witchy, queer, magick, shapeshifters, this series is right up my alley. I'm already changing over to the second book.
I was reading this comic on my phone and the font isn't easy for my dyslexia. I might try again with the physical book later on, but I already have enough trouble with discerning t, l, and f from each other without the way this font is displayed.
The limitations of Brian K Vaughan's vocabulary kinda soured the experience for me. Using ableist words is old hat for him but he still decided to call someone a "midget" this time. Fiona Staples' art is excellent tho and since she's co-creator, I'm still fully invested.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
5.0
Volume 10 of Saga signifies a decade of the comics. This installment is full of things I never thought I'd see and gets pretty emotional by the end. Glad to be catching up.
