I loved the relationship with the grandmother. The photography as a unifying structural device works well. The Navajo cultural values and observations on the mix of Catholic and indigenous religious traditions added significance and depth. The crime drama did not grab me at first (too much initial gore), but eventually hooked me and ended strong.

Good introduction to the subject. Broad approach. I liked the “8 wonders of life” best. Nice way of sorting the things we encounter that give us a feeling of awe.

Fortitude Required. Definitely pay attention to the trigger warnings. There's a lot of very rough stuff here, but the careful crafting of characters, atmosphere, and landscape, along with dialect and dialogue make this nearly perfect, nearly a masterpiece. There are only a few places where it felt like the author should have stopped short of hammering the point home...or suggest rather than state explicitly. Still, WOW!
