This book isn’t my usual go-to in terms of genre, but it made me feel so, so seen.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 29%.
I tried. I really did. It just wasn’t grabbing my attention, and the casual racism (yes, I know it was 1937, yes, it still rubbed me the wrong way) was not doing it for me.

A fun comic exploration into the world of Vicious! I think the story really suits the comic format.

I’m so sorry. I really wanted to like this book. I don’t see a lot of aro/ace rep so I was mainly excited for that, but it just wasn’t worth it. No one talks like a human in this book, they just spurt exposition every single page, and the plot moves at an abruptly fast pace. The terminology and fantasy lingo was just too much, I couldn’t take it seriously. It just wasn’t for me.

One of the only things taking me out of this book was the first person present tense, but I’m not the type to DNF over things like that, and I’m glad I didn’t.

A nice, nostalgic reread that made me realize just how much Uncle Andrew sucks.

I see why people dislike this book — if you’re a fan of intricately specific magic systems that make consistent sense logically, this book isn’t for you. However, this wasn’t the focus of the book, and I found this read extremely emotionally impactful and I’m reeling. I loved it. It explored concepts that are truly intriguing and so incredibly important. The moral rifts weren’t as black-and-white as I expected them to be. I was so very invested.

I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Vicious, but that's just because femme fatale is not a favorite trope of mine. However, this book was still such a fun, addictive read, and I cannot wait for Victorious!
