Gave a more insightful and emotional account of capitalism than a lot of the theory I read in college lol. Blown away by her writing

I really enjoyed this, I love the idea of a biography dictated by someone’s relationship to a place
And the little suggested walks/directions at the end are so cute

I must’ve bought this 5 or 6 years ago and it’s sat on my bookshelf ever since— I’ve tried to start it a couple times but never got past the first couple chapters. I can’t say why it never clicked before bc I think this book was written for me. It checks all the boxes— teaching, music, pining, second chance romances, aimless walking….. 10/10 :,)
Boys & Sex: Young Men on Hookups, Love, Porn, Consent, and Navigating the New Masculinity by Peggy Orenstein

Interesting but at times extremely reductive and often moralizing. The author’s opinion showed through a lot— not that I’m against putting your opinion into your academic writing, I think that’s both inevitable and necessary, I just… didn’t like hers lol. Just very clear that it was written by a middle-aged white woman living in Berkeley lmao. I will say I found the part about restorative justice in campus SA cases very interesting and well-explored, and it caused me to really think through my own experiences with SVSH and its aftermath in undergrad.
