girls when they're reading a translation
and know that while the true cultural and connotative meaning of the original text may be obscured to them, that translation itself is a separate art form worthy of appreciation, and engaging with a well-done translation is like stargazing: one nation's interpretation of a particular constellation may be different than another, but all the world sees the same sky. we live by the same core themes, emotions, feelings, and values, and reading in translation allows oneself to expand the breadth of one's readership in conjunction with the presence of the source text, not behind or below it <3
Our Wives Under The Sea by Julia Armfield
slow-paced
4.25
I think slow paced books are hard for me to enjoy. I went through the first 70% of this book feeling like I might DNF because I just wasn’t… feeling it? But something about the core message kept pulling me back and it paid off. Will definitely reread it now I know I enjoy it!
