Though I found this collection to contain a lot of less fully formed stories than Vandermeer’s usual output, it was equally full of GREAT short stories that every Vandermeer fan should read.

I recommend this to those already very familiar with the author’s work and his various worlds.

Favorites:
- Secret Life
- Flight Is for Those Who Have Not Yet Crossed Over
- The Bone Carver’s Tale
- Ghost Dancing with Manco Tupac
- Detectives and Cadavers
- The Emperor’s Reply
- Balzac’s War ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- A Heart For Lucretia
- London Burning
- Corpse Mouth and Spore Nose
- The City

Loved A Hunger Artist and A Little Woman, the others sadly really went over my head.

Devoured this collection, couldn’t get enough.

I’ve been thinking about ‘Three Days in a Border Town’ since I finished it.
