interesting history and interesting life story but they weren't actually tied together so the jumping back and forth between them didn't quite quite work

I really didn't like the third act breakup - in general I was annoyed by Mel's whole "we have to have rules for dating" thing

overall fun to read and good for fun facts. I personally would have preferred a little less of the book to be about the author herself

Any book of essays is going to have some that are better and some that are worse - none of these were bad to read and it's nice to read about dumplings in general but only a handful of them were really great

I spent half the book saying this is the perfect book for me in every way and half of it saying agh why are they like this. Not a miscommunication trope though

The dialogue is so bad and unrealistic. There are other problems but the dialogue is the one that makes it unfun

This was fun but I REALLY wanted it to be canonically toxic lesbians instead of an intensely homoerotic flirty friendship

Pacing really wasn't working for me and it went a little too hard on characters narrating stuff that had happened instead of doing flashbacks or whatever

Well that was depressing
