“Love is this very precious thing, Izz. It’s this precious, magical thing. But it’s not finite. There’s not a limited amount of it out there. You just have to be open to allowing it to find you. Allowing it to happen.” I was not entirely sure that I believed this, but I needed her to.

To be completely honest, I read this book simply because the movie was coming out. I didn’t know what to expect because I didn’t know it existed. However, once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down! The author writes solely from the FMC’s POV, leading the reader into a world of name-dropping artists, designers and brands, while taking us along a whirlwind affair with a rockstar as they trek all over the globe. The whole world feels sophisticated, which I assume will translate well in its film adaptation. But it’s the romance between these two characters, Solène and Hayes, that sucks you in from the start! Although it seems like the world and their own minds doubt their union’s strength, they can’t help the magnetic pull towards one another. Their relationship grows organically and beautifully… I can’t wait to see the movie because I liked this book.

"...being scared and torn, at the same time elated that I’d found someone who had taken the time to know me, and all the little things that made me so very happy. And how I did not want to let him go... Love, she said, was not always perfect, and not exactly how you expected it to be. But when it descended upon you, there was no controlling it."
🎤
This book was not what I expected: I predicted it would be a fun story about an older woman living out a fantasy everyone has about dating a young boy bander. I hoped there would be some discussion about the double standard of older women dating younger men (they're "cougars" & are belittled in society) as opposed to older men dating younger women (who are celebrated as being "the man" & their masculinity gets a boost). I wanted to live in a fancy, celebrity world with lavish parties, backstage access, hotel suites, and private planes. Which this book definitely delivered.

However, it surprised me because it felt like a realistic version of this fantasy playing out. Both characters were forced to examine their identity in society: a single mom, career woman, dating a younger man & an overworked younger man dating an older woman, adored by thousands of fans, dealing with imposter syndrome or feeling like he's not being taken seriously. But they also had to deal with the realities of their relationship & everything that came with that: constant trotting around the globe, media & fandom attention, questioning the reality of feelings developing & managing how those closest to them were dealing with their relationship. And I appreciated this surprising realistic spin on a fantasy dream. It felt like Robinne truly and honestly answered the question: what if he saw me from the stage and we fell in love?

“‘I want to choose my own fate. I want freedom.’
She kicked the dirt, scattering dust. ‘I deserve to choose.’”

Whew! This book was a fast-paced, thrilling fantasy narrative with no spice, limited descriptions of violence and clean language. However, this story covers dark, adult themes and the quality of the story is not compromised in any way. Right from the start, you’re pulled into Ravenna’s world and it’s not until a third of the way through the story you get a moment to breathe before the action picks up again. No matter how good her intentions trouble and heartbreak seem to follow Ravenna, but she never fails to rise to the challenge. Even as she doubts herself or the obstacle in front of her, Ravenna grows into one of the strongest female characters I’ve read about and it’s inspiring. There are so many nuggets in this book that pay off throughout the story, and many more I suspect will pay off in future installments. The twists and turns will keep you entertained from start to finish!

"She was divine. He had fallen in love with the fierceness that radiated from her, but as the ferocity grew over the years, she was becoming harder and harder to tame."

I don't want to give any of the book away (it was unbelievably challenging to pick good quotes that didn't spoil the plots twists) because I truly think going in somewhat blind is best. This is a unique fantasy which beautifully covers darker themes of loss, violence, darkness/evil, self-worth and more. There is some biblical theming to the narrative (Father of the Light, creation stories, light vs. dark, etc.), but as someone who is absolutely not religious, please don't let that put you off because this truly is a story about resilience. I genuinely enjoyed this beautifully written story and look forward to seeing more of the world Abby has created for us.

"He would do anything for the broken, precious soul before him to have a second chance at a family. She deserved to know happiness once more and to find her own purpose. She had given him one, and he would forever be indebted to her. So, he rose to his feet and drew his sword."

"'What the hell was your plan, Lark?'
'I don't know,' she says with a dismissive flap of her hand. 'Maybe follow her home. Break into her house--'
'Christ--'
'Rig up a few cans of spray adhesive and put a glitter bomb in her closet I guess.' The devious glint in Lark's eyes becomes downright maniacal. 'Can you imagine that woman with a tricked-out, sparkly wardrobe? I think that would be her personal hell.'
'... Seems like you have a bit of a glitter psycho streak going, duchess.'"

To say I’ve been waiting for this one is an understatement because I’ve been OBSESSED with this world since diving in last December… and this sequel DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Everything you love about B&B remains true in L&L, but this story is vastly different. The “Irish-isms” come in strong, the banter is leveled up between our main characters (plus the Kane bros are back at it with their teasing ways), the criminal “deleter” behavior is… glittery, and the whole world of these characters is cracked open and expanded. Flowing from B&B to L&L feels natural as we get to know Lachlan & Lark more and, can I just say, I LOVE them! The writing is brilliant and every narrative choice, from the humor to the storyline to the character development, feels realistic and natural. Brynne is such a smart writer, and this sequel is sure to leave you singing her praises… or cursing her for ruining more foods… or bowing down to her genius… or all the above!

“‘I get all the boys’ numbers, missy…’
‘Love you, hell-raiser.’
‘Shh. Don’t give the devil any ideas. I want to sneak up on him…’”

Read this book. Just do it. If you liked the first one, you'll love this one, and the surprises within its pages. I laughed out loud, clutched my heart, gasped in shock, abruptly sat up during intense moments, and remained thoroughly entertained from the dedication to the acknowledgements. There's so much about this book I loved, but in an effort to not spill any piping hot tea, I just want to thank Brynne for a fantastic read. And can we take a second to congratulate Brynne's excellence in detailing the vile behavior of those hunted by our main characters? More often than not, the things that make them villains worth being "deleted," is the predatory destruction of their victims' lives. Often, in the real world, these crimes are difficult to prove and too many of these monsters take advantage of the holes in our system and walk free. So to have justice finally served at the hands of our main characters feels like Brynne has righted a wrong (or several), making these books even sweeter.

I can't wait to celebrate L&L's official release as everyone falls in love with this new story!

"'I’d wait forever for you, and I’ll sit with you every day in the darkness until you find the light. You are the very air I breathe, and when I’m away from you I can’t take a full breath. Love feels like such a trivial way to describe the way that you make me feel, Aria. You make life worth living again, and risks worth taking. You make me feel alive.'"
💜
The start of this book PERFECTLY captures the dark, unhinged & hilarious vibe of this second story. When Aria & Matt meet one another for the first time, their energies match in the best way and let's just say... that energy is maintained throughout the rest of the story... it's amazing! If you dig Brynne Weaver's world, then you'll like this book too.
🖤
"'Hey, Baxter, you’re a cutie and all, but you’re kind of beating up my guy... [the bad guy "falls"]... I took out two guys.' I beam a smile at him, proud of myself. 'I beat you!'
His brow furrows as he wipes blood onto his suit jacket. 'What? Are we really talking about body counts right now? It’s not a contest... Focus, Aria.'
'In bed, or in the grave?' I quip back."
💜
The author really woke up and chose violence with her second book… and it’s incredible! Stepping away from the ranch, we dive into Matt’s world as a “fixer” for several cartel “family” organizations. He’s no longer the quiet, brooding bartender/owner. We get POV chapters from him that are glorious as he works through the steps of “fixing” a scene. But he isn’t the only dark character in this story because Aria’s feisty personality has a morally grey side too. Her borderline deranged actions make this book so entertaining. It’s got satisfying “unaliving” madness, a hilarious foul-mouthed leading lady, spicy scenes for days, cartel card games, fancy clothes/cars/apartments, biker couple moments, a tortured-yet-still-swoony third wheel, and it lives up to its title of “devotion.” This is action-packed, high-stakes dark & moody entertainment!
🖤
"With him, I feel complete, as though he’s the spark to my flame. Without him, I am dim. But with him, I blaze fiercely, ready to take on anything that dares to challenge us."
💜
While this story is significantly spicier & darker than the first in the series, it levels up in every way possible. It kinda feels like it should be a movie because it takes us out of small town Cedarbrook, Arkansas, to big cities Chicago & Miami. There are fast cars, expensive clothes, various weapons & methods of "unaliving" someone, cartels & corrupt family organizations, and, if it couldn't get any better, there's a heated card game scene too! This book has everything! (And if you read that in Stefon's voice from SNL, then you fully understand my soul!)

"One of these days, I swear I’ll keep a lasso on me just to reel her back every time she runs away. She thinks running away will cause me to do the same. But nothing can keep me away from her, not even her demons."

Another fantastic read from an indie author I discovered because I signed up to ARC read her newest story. However, because I'm me & I don't like to start a series unless it's from the beginning, I wanted to read this one first. And boy am I glad I did! It's great!

“'You are the most frustratingly beautiful woman I have ever met,' he confessed, his words seemingly emerging from the depths of his soul. He swallowed hard. 'But you push me away every time... I just don’t understand.'
'You don’t want me,' I answered softly...
'I want you in the worst way, Tee... More than I’ve ever wanted anything in my life. I would chase you to the ends of the earth to prove that to you.'
With his confession, all doubts and reservations seemed to melt away. The world ceased to exist, and it was just the two of us."

What to say about a book that feels like it was exactly what I needed? Well, I could start off talking about how it’s got depth because both main characters are running away from their past lives filled with mistakes/regrets, some trauma, and the weight of expectations. Or I could talk about how it feels like they were fated for each other (in only the best way) because they compliment one another perfectly. Or I could mention the cat and cow humor woven throughout the story and how it will make you giggle out loud. though this story contains all of these great things, its magnificence comes from the person telling this story: the author. K.T. Maddan’s writing is beautifully descriptive, and the characters are quite compelling. Escaping her abusive past, Tee finds herself working on a cattle farm when one of the brothers returns home from a prison stint after making a mistake in his youth. But they’re more than their troubled pasts, which threaten to swallow them in darkness. Fortunately, they’ve found each other & this story of survival, love, protection & the beauty of a fresh start.

"'Eli, I… I can’t stay away from you.’
'Then don’t... Tee, break your rules for me, or watch as I continue to prove to you, that I am the exception...'
'Sometimes...' she whispered, her words floating like a soft exhale, 'It feels like you want to disappear, but I just wanted to be found.'”

There's some difficult subject matter (check your CWs!), but it's tackled respectfully. And there's humor and heart sprinkled throughout killer, swoony lines you're guaranteed to love. I really liked this story because of its small town, haters to lovers, story of survival & redemption.

"'Why me, Eli?' I asked hesitantly.
'Why anyone else when you exist?'”

And enjoy some of my favorite quotes, but this is by no means all of them... this book is full of sweet & swoon-y moments!

"'Those who hunger for power are never the ones who should have it... Power is a drug, I have seen good men and women succumb to its attraction. To be lusting after it before you’ve even had a true taste would be to put yourself in a situation you could never win.'”

There isn’t enough space to adequately rave about this book. The reluctant heroine, who has to work hard before she accepts her role as a leader while reckoning with her own traumatic past, is someone to fall in love with. Plus, the entire world celebrating the power of women is awe-inspiring (hearing “by the Goddess,” “blessed with first-born daughters,” and “a long line of powerful Queens” make my heart swell). The author’s atmospheric writing is simply magnificent, while her world is rich, yet easy to understand, isn’t overly violent or spicy, but is super entertaining. You will fall in love with her characters, cling to the mystery weaving in and out of the story, and you are guaranteed to swoon. And the last 5-6 chapters will keep you up reading well into the wee hours of the morning in shock.

"The years may have dulled the sharp bite of loss, but grief still swam in their veins, still clouded their senses. Instead of the deaths feeling like daggers sinking into their skin and vices constricting the air from their lungs, they felt like being submerged underwater. Senses and emotions muffled. Smothered under the weight of reality."

I didn't know what to expect when picking up this story, but I knew I was in for a beautiful fantasy story. That is the understatement of the century! The writing in this debut novel is magnificent and the world Jessica creates feels like the royally beautiful fantasy we all had when we were little. The world-building is explained well so you can follow along with ease, but the story is rich in detail and sets up the future series brilliantly. Plus, the female empowerment in this book is well-earned and I love the character development of our main character, Deming. I really liked the world created in this book and I hope everyone who picks it up appreciates Jessica's talent as an author!

"She’s afraid of failure. She’s afraid of enlisting the help of her friends. Afraid of leaning on me if and when she needs to... I’d burn down cities to be needed by her. I’d do just about anything to hear her say fuck timing. Because as long as she thinks timing has absolutely anything to do with it, I’m one of two things: I’m either the guy who showed up at the right place and the right time, and I’m good enough, or I’m the guy she leaves when time dictates she finds her real person. I’m too far gone for either option. I want her to [be successful]... and then I want her to choose me.”
❤️‍🩹
Oh. My. Freaking. Gawd! This book was EVERYTHING I wanted in a sequel to this series. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the first book in the series, but it’s impossible to not fall in love with Gabi & Zeke. Their relationship develops in an organic way that feels earned in the most delicious way. Heavier themes of consent, emotional abuse, sense of worth, what “love” means, and other mental health matters are tackled in tasteful, realistic ways that don’t distract from the story’s entertainment. There were lots of pieces of Gabi I see in myself and many moments when Zeke proved himself the perfect partner. I absolutely cherished meeting these characters.

I genuinely loved the characters in this book and feel like you can totally read this one as a standalone (which is not something I, known for reading an author’s entire backlist for simple FOMO, say lightly). Gabi has had a history of difficult and gross men, each tarnishing her shiny armor a little when they leave, so she struggles with her worth and relying on others. Zeke had a past relationship that consumed him to the point of him only fulfilling the needs/dreams of others, until he left them to forge his own path by establishing his own life.

When these two find each other, their relationship isn’t easy. But it’s real in the most beautiful way. He supports her in a way she isn’t used to (and even tries to resist), while she cares about him beyond what he can do for her (making him value love in a way he never has before). This is a wonderful contemporary romance that delivers on all fronts and I highly recommend it!
🌕
“‘She’s sunshine, and I’m the clouds that dull her…’
‘Gabi, you’re moonlight.’ My breath catches in my throat. ‘You’re subtle and calm and protective. Thoughtful and resilient. Sure, Stephanie shines bright. No one’s going to argue that. But Gabi, you glow.’”

"SMACK! My book hits my forehead and nose, narrowly missing my eye. I check the time, and, shit, how is it already two in the morning? I have work in four hours, but I need to know if James is going to take a fake wife… I already know. It’s the fourteenth time I’ve read this one... Fake dating is never fake. I’ve yet to read a book where they part ways to live their best lives separately and not madly in love."

At this point, I feel almost like an Irene Bahrd stan, but this is a side we haven’t seen of her we haven’t seen yet… and I love it. Of course, the usual “famous” Irene ingredients are present in this story, too. However, the comedy in this story was upped to the tenth degree. I mean, you wake up as a character in your favorite Regency-era romance and the swoony male main character now has eyes for you. What? Do you accept his “affection” (if you know, you know), or do you try to maintain the integrity of the original story? We shall see… but the cliffhanger here is criminal.

“’Right, yes. Of course. I am still tired. I meant a’—what the fuck is it called here?— ‘chamberpot...’ She retrieves what can only be explained as the fanciest porcelain bowl I’ve ever seen in my life. Do I squat? Do I hold it? ‘May I have some privacy?’ Damn, my accent is fucking amazing! Priv-ah-see. Whenever I wake up from this fever dream, I’m forever going to pronounce it this way.”
📖
As I said before, this cliffhanger was criminal! Irene totally warned us about it, but I wasn’t expecting THAT! (The series is aptly named... well done, Irene, well done.) Otherwise, this was such a fun read. I feel like everyone fantasizes about dropping into their favorite book, so to see that storyline play out was quite entertaining and mysterious. I simply cannot wait for Act II later this summer!!!

"They had created the poetry of silence. 'Yes, silence can be an opinion,' said Mishka. 'Silence can be a form of protest. It can be a means of survival. But it can also be a school of poetry—one with its own meter, tropes, and conventions. One that needn’t be written with pencils or pens; but that can be written in the soul with a revolver to the chest.'”
🏨
While the recent TV adaptation of this novel served as the catalyst to moving this up my TBR, I was pleasantly surprised by this story. Amor’s writing is unique because the Count’s voice (our MC & narrator)is never lost. When he sees something that triggers a memory from his youth, he tells us about it. When he watches people from the confines of the hotel, he gives us history lessons (in almost a footnote-style aside). And he comments on societal culture, especially how a gentleman would act in certain situations. The Count is a quirky character: talking to animals, finding the pitch of noises all around him, befriending an equally quirky little girl & watching her grow up. But this story is about how to maintain a sense of self, even when forced into confinement, and how to find or create your own village. No matter your circumstance, you can always find loved ones, stay true to who you are, and this beautiful story proves that.

“’Looking back, it seems to me that there are people who play an essential role at every turn... men and women who routinely appear at critical junctures in the progress of art, or commerce, or the evolution of ideas—as if Life itself has summoned them once again to help fulfill its purpose. Well, since the day I was born, [redacted character name], there was only one time when Life needed me to be in a particular place at a particular time, and that was when your mother brought you to the lobby of the Metropol. And I would not accept the Tsarship of all the Russias in exchange for being in this hotel at that hour.’”
🪆
Truthfully, this book feels impossible to accurately describe succinctly because it's a literary work of art. If you like reading artistic writing that’s got comedy, history, and details the power of social relationships, then this book is for you. I especially appreciated learning about Russian history, a subject I’m not as familiar with. Although it took me a minute to adjust to Amor’s unique style of writing as the Count’s voice, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The cast of characters are quirky, yet lovable, and this found family storyline following the Count’s life is full of heart.

“’I’m fine,’ I immediately spoke up, but my trembling gave me away. Logan stepped into my space, lifting his hands with a question on his face. ‘Please hold me,’ I whispered... I hid my face against his button-up shirt. His large hands made soothing passes down my back, my arms, my legs, my neck, whatever part of me he could touch. As if he was both trying to reassure me and himself that I was okay. That I was here, and that he had me.”
🤟🏻
After teasing us for two books, we FINALLY get to know more about these characters... and it totally pays off! Usually I’m not a big fan of the “miscommunication trope,” but Andrea makes it uniquely her own because Logan is only able to speak through ASL and Eloise doesn’t know much of the language. While he is forced to listen to her misunderstanding his signs or his cryptic facial expressions, he is unable to fully explain himself. Up until this point, Logan is always the quiet one in the corner (usually because Court’s dragged him to some event... hello, Mr. Grumpy Pants) because of his lack of verbal communication abilities and his disinterest in engaging with others via ASL.

But, adding to the depth of the story, we get Logan's POV throughout the book, which adds to the tension and makes us kick our feet in giddy entertainment. Now we get to know who he really is and we get to fall in love with him, which is what we always want in a romance. I mean, who doesn’t love a man who is BIG on explicit consent, willing to learn about how to be a better, more supportive partner (and actually follows through with actions!), likes to poke fun at people, cares about people deeply, lives with the literal scars of his pain, is always observing, and will fiercely protect those he loves.

And, Eloise? Gosh, I relate to her because I am also trying to grapple with my own detrimental people pleasing. But her growth from the first book is wonderful to observe and she quickly grows on you. I LOVED the development of Eloise and Logan’s relationship from the previous books to this one, they really go through it, eventually finding ways to express themselves. Their love story is beautiful in its imperfections with both characters growing into better people for themselves and for their partner. The tenderness between them feels earned, in a way I can’t fully describe, but it adds depth to the story that you will love. This truly feels like the perfect way to end this series! Bravo, Andrea! I’m excited to see what else Andrea writes, because I am such a fan, even if it’s hard to say goodbye to these characters for now... until the next reread!

"I felt like I had a place in the world. Like I belonged and was supported... For the first time in my adult life, I felt like I fit. Like these people saw me for me. Even Logan... was able to make me feel both cherished and appreciated."
