Still prefer it over other romance novels, Ali Hazelwood writes in a way that is just easy to read and really addicting, but compared to other books of hers... I wasn't left particularly impressed. The diving/athlete part is really new and sets this book apart from other titles, but the characters got on my nerves sometimes and some scenes (ESPECIALLY with the therapist) felt very repetitive and didn't add much for me.

also, Pen was not a character I liked. In the first 25% of the book i was fine with her but after that she irritated me and just felt like an obstacle to create drama instead of a character.

This book is a tough read at times, and I can't recommend it to everyone. (Please see the content warnings. Protect your peace.)

However, if you think you can handle it, it is worth reading as it provides so much perspective and thought.

i love a good rivals-to-lovers, he liked her the whole time trope

the pacing is FAST and i love that, i really like it when authors create urgency with the plot

HOWEVER, some moments felt drawn out and long by comparison because they were interrupting the pace of the game.
