I absolutely loved, loved, loved this book. The art combined with the poetry of the writing made it a soothing read. On top of that, it taught me stuff even I didn't know at 39-years-old and refreshed my mind where it concerned stuff I'd learned in school yeaaaaars ago. It also made learning a fun, bright experience. The art itself adds to the soothing experience in the best way as it's so well done. The colors used were a beautiful choice and made the words more captivating. I would definitely recommend this book as an educational tool for parents or teachers, but also just as an enjoyable read for those of any age.

A fun, adventurous read that gives vibes of stuff like Veronica Mars or Nancy Drew just with a fantasy/sci-fi twist. The characters were definitely a delight though it was hard to like Vivian at first given her first interaction with the other characters. Not that it was hard to sympathize with the why of what she was doing, just it wasn't exactly a nice thing and it's obvious that this is intentional. The character does grow though as the story progresses. The overall arc was a lot of fun though I do wish one thing about the ending had been different. Yet I suspect I know why it wasn't though I'd have to read more - if there is more - to find out. The art style was done well especially for the old-timey style of the story. Loved how colorful it was as well. I don't know if this story was necessarily my absolute favorite though it did give me some appropriate spoopy vibes for the season. If there's more published though, I'd definitely still pick it up and see how it goes as I did enjoy my time reading this graphic novel.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

Did not finish book. Stopped at 12%.
Really struggled with the narration. Might try it as an eBook instead cause the story seems interesting and I really want to read the book. I might give it another go as an audiobook another time though. . . We'll see.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A truly lovely book that adults and children alike would benefit from reading. When I was in school, and even now, we often hear of teachers who refuse to listen to students that might correct them. In this book the teacher listens instead of being stuck on adamantly admitting their assumption is incorrect. The student ends up teaching them and in the end they see that perhaps they'd closed off their mind to the possibilities. There's a valuable lesson here about how adults, especially at times those who become teachers, often stop seeing things and become rigid in their ways. When a student then corrects them? You hear horrible stories about them punishing the child or making fun of them in front of their classmates, etc. In this book, the teacher doesn't behave in this manner and instead learns something beautiful from their student. I loved that so much.

The art itself is lovely. Given the importance color plays in this story, it's nice to see how the color comes through in the illustrations. I was pleased to see that it shows that the sky isn't always blue cause as a kid I used to think about that too whenever teachers, especially art teachers early on, would insist on encouraging blue for the sky. The sky is full of so many colors at different times and in different weather, and the illustrator did a great job showing that in this book.

This was so much fun to read. I really enjoy the Cult of the Lamb video game, and often watch content creators on Twitch and YouTube play it. That it's being turned into a graphic novel format is even more exciting though. I love that it might expand on the story some more in a different way. I love consuming media in different forms like this, and wasn't disappointed at all. I did feel it was a little disjointed so that is why it's only a 4.5 and not a 5, but that is still a really high rating. The story itself grabs you from the start, which is a plus, and I really loved the side characters like Nana. Nana was definitely my favorite. The art is so well-done. Beautiful seems an odd word to use when talking about this graphic novel that displays blood, gore, vomit, and poop in it, but nonetheless it's a fitting word. I definitely intend to recommend this to friends and family that I know who enjoy the game, and to my community in general.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a delightful read! I don't think I stopped feeling some sense of joy while reading this even on the more emotional pages given their comforting, hopeful nature. I'm a big cat lover - two sweet kitties live in my home - so a little collection of comics that offer comfort via adorable cats is right up my alley. Also, it helps that I've loved the authors work for quite some time, but to see beloved strips mixed with new ones was wonderful especially given how beautifully done the art is in each piece. I can't wait to buy a physical copy for my home shelves.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was surprised by how much I loved this book.

Obviously, it's a book I was interested in since I read, and loved, the first one, and the premise of a Sapphic Romance between a Selkie & a Vampire with such different personalities was absolutely intriguing. I was nervous though cause obviously Lizzie hadn't left the best impression upon me during the first book. I couldn't stop myself from immediately requesting an arc though when I saw it was available. I mean yeah, I'd already pre-ordered, but I didn't want to have to wait - heh, life made me wait anyways, but what ya gonna do? - and was stunned when I got approved. And let me tell you, this book. . . This book had it all. Sea battles, boat fights, clashing personalities, hot sex scenes, and beautiful Romance.

My emotions were all over the place. Maeve is just such a delightful character that worked her way into my heart easily, and Lizzie. . . ahh, Lizzie, I didn't expect to love her so much. Her growth though is just so beautiful. Honestly, I might love these two even more Evelyn and Bowen and I didn't think that was possible. Watching these two women, both strong in their own ways be vulnerable with each other and fall in love was just so wonderful. And the sex scenes were definitely hot between them. Definitely needed a cold drink when reading this book cause whew! they were spicy.

Once again the side characters were just done so well, and as diverse as the first book. I was already interested in so many of these characters from the first book and now there's even more especially as the story of the rebellion gets more and more intriguing. I can't wait to see where this goes and to learn more of this fascinating world. And, of course, the representation of mental health topics were handled so wonderfully again. It is definitely safe to say I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
