I did not think I’d finish this book, but somehow (after many, many months) I managed to push through so I can finally start reading the The Dark Artifices. As a fan of Cassie’s shadowhunter books l definitely think this is the series I like the least—but it is her first after all, so I do understand. The first three books in The Mortal Instruments were really entertaining (though absurd in some ways… (forbidden love incest edition…)) but they did lay the foundation for the shadowhunter universe. I actually enjoyed book 4 and 5 in TMI, but I do think the books could have ended at book 3.
This book was too long for it’s contents, and had way too many storylines of which I had no interest in at all. The redeeming quality of this book was the ending, and mention + cameo of The Infernal Devices characters. Despite all the deaths in this book, the mention of Will‘s name was the only thing that really touched me. It also gave me closure knowing Jace and Clary will carry on the Herondale name and legacy, and that Jem and Tessa finally reunited after everything in TID.
