Absolute MUST read, for anybody, honestly. Frank, raw, and heart-wrenching.

A nice broad overview into history, philosophy, and remembrance of war. Doesn’t necessarily strike any point hard, but is a good primer for some tougher, more in-depth topics.

Says very little for the amount of words on the page, frankly. I cared very little for the main character, who didn’t have much character development and spent most of the novel being insufferable. It was a LOT of description for things I cared little about, and not enough description for things that perhaps might’ve been more interesting. Overall, I feel like this book gets lost in sloppily attempting to address World War I and grief, and poorly pastes itself into a polar horror setting.

Really not my vibe! I should’ve known when they compared it to early Chuck Palahniuk. Just not my thing.

Very fun read, and handles heavy topics in a historical fantasy setting VERY well! Excited for the next book!
