We couldāve done without this follow up. It literally felt like we were reading a completely different character ARC and purpose. And yes this is a dark fantasy romance but seriously I need W to figure out if she wanted this or not because I feel like the dark shit was really actually unnecessary! Maybe dark shit isnāt for me which is fine but this was a bad first taste of it.
And then whatever the plot was for book 1 we very loosely followed that in book 2 but still this was just not it. And forget completely about the academics lmao because baby where was that?!
This was a very strong follow up to a first in a book and for many reasons. The magic and the world continues to build and thereās even talk of a deck of cards and it actually makes sense to the magic! And there is a lot of relatability in regards to the current events today as far as police brutality goes and excessive force.
I didnāt care for the romance, book 1 set it up for one thing and then we just randomly switch it up but like suuuper under developed.
There was some more action and some more revelations that happened in book 2 and a hint of what to look for in book 3, which of course I will read because this is just a really colorful and beautiful world Older has created.
More thought to come but once I got over th jump of the actual story I really enjoyed this!!!!
Ok š¤ So I thoroughly enjoyed this book for multiple reasons! I love love looooved the audio and the banter from start to finish! One of the best dual narrations Iāve heard! I thought the plot was interesting, never have I ever read a romcom about serial killers falling in loveš¤£ and the smut babbyyyyyy Rowan could do allllll the thangs to me and Iād still be telling chainsawš¤£š¤£
~Mild spoilers~ What I was annoyed withšµāš« I HATE the miscommunication trope because it is really a lot of beating around the bush and just not using your words and voicing things. So literally the first half of the damn book was a buzz kill for me!
There was a lot I was enjoying about this which shocked me because immediately I knew this was a different kind of fantasy writing. The ease the author has to just export you to this world, the characters and the surroundings was really entertaining. But I was hoping the short stories would blend a little bit more together and these kind of felt disjointed.
Gaaahhh this was good, much better than the blue book I read. I enjoyed the characters and the economical issues and the creep factor was there for sure! I would recommend this one!
These stories are for a certain type of people and you know what, thatās just not meš¤£ if you like it, I love that for you!!!
ā ļø: forced insemination and a character who off page was attacked and cannot have children
There was soooo much mmm questionable content happening and like how is that possible when the book is so shortš¤but she made it possible and with a quickness at that!!!
What I enjoyed ā -we got a Black FMC! Loved it! Nothing was super cringy about her as a character or her actions -second chance romanceā¦its not normally my thing but hey on a short time schedule we got places to go! -the goat!!! Hilarious again and this time she tried to save the day š¤£ -we got some shifter action towards the end
What was cringy and gave hard side eyeā- -WTF was this evil man and r*pe like maāam there are a bazillion other ways to move the plot along and THIS is what you chose in a novella..so not only did we have this attempt to happen but then we just moved on like this extremely traumatizing experience didnāt happen -theeen we got some dragon insemination momentšµšµāš« again why! It was gross and cringy and we were so stuck on the side of his š that she was like āoh my god how could you but wait *drool*ā āabsolutely not! -theeen the smut again, it appears these scenes are literally just thrown in there without a decent build up. Like either have the mystery or make this a cozy smutty paranormal romance but there is truly no good balance or plot progression that warrants all of what happens -theeeennn JESUS BE A FENCEā¦I truly wonder if this woman has in fact had kids becauseā¦she not only was pregnant for less than 24 hours then this woman proceeds to have her ātight coochieā stretched to push out a dragon egg which she theeen proceeds to tell us ooo owww it hurts and she may have rippedš¤¢šµ but wait weāre still stuck in this cave and we gotta get out, so thereās a makeshift diaper and she somehow has enough energy to run out of said caveš¤£š¤£ again UNNECESSARY!!!!
And the damn cherry š on too was not only did she go thru this TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE of a forced inseminationā¦she then is fooooorrrr having said dragon baby and calling her mama and this shifter daddy and just like WTF this whole thing was mind boggling! Like no true emotional processing, no issues that would be of concern as to how weeeee got here!!
I would not recommend this series because it seems like itās just going downhill. Ummmm yea no just no!
Check the triggers, my word my word, she was not kidding but Iām highly intrigued on her other book series! I really enjoyed Woodsā writing style. This I would say is a dark NA fantasy romance, the MC is younger but I would be bothered if my child was reading some of the content in this book.
I have already put in my hold for book 2!
If you like necromancer magic, witchy vibes, angry tempered men and an extremely fiesty female..welp just read this lol
This story has probably one of the most unique magic systems Iāve read, mixed with shadows and art and familial curses. There were some moments I felt didnāt quite connect for me but I love the cultural content and the characters.
Iām sorry, I triedš¤£š¤£ I just do not give a flying rats butt about what is going on here. I thought I did, the beginning and multi pov had me for a second but I have no idea whatās going on and the cards are still confusing. Someone tapped something 3 times and thereās a search for a maiden and Iām just so lost. Itās fine. Iām fine. Iām just going to find something I enjoy šš« š¤£
