Ok I get the hype about this book. Not even one chapter in and the writing already impressed me. What turns me off about a lot of contemporary romances is that the writing often tries too hard to be witty and charming, and just comes across as forced. But this book actually succeeds. It was all too easy to fall for Alex and Henry and to root for them with passion. I loved this.

*sigh* Listen, I’d been avoiding this book despite being really curious, simply because… well do I need to say? Lol.

But I couldn’t help but love it. It had me giggling and blushing and slapping a hand over my mouth in shock more than a few times, and I genuinely enjoyed it.

Like the first book in this series, this is another story that I wouldn’t necessarily call great, but I did enjoy reading it.

I’m also all for delayed gratification—I certainly enjoy a good slow burn enemies-to-lovers—but by the end of this book I was over the repetitive “are they or aren’t they” moments. Teasing and drawing out the tension only work for so long before I get annoyed.

I completely agree with the assessment given by the person whose recommendation influenced me to pick it up: this book is candy. Will you roll your eyes at the tropes and the predictable plot? Sure, but will you enjoy the experience of reading it? Yeah. At least I did. I devoured it in like three sittings.

If you liked ACOTAR and want something else that will scratch that itch but don’t want to support SJM, this is for you.
