Wow! When the world called this book disturbing they weren’t lying!
I loved 98% of this book. I loved the kind of dual pov between Lowen and Verity, being able to clearly see the differences between Verity the character and Lowen the reader. Every new chapter of the manuscript brought more and more devastation upon Lowen.
While the “real” Verity was comatose in a bedroom upstairs, Lowen read all about the copious amount of sins Verity had committed. All while Lowen slowly falls in love with Verity’s grief stricken husband.
I loved the twists throughout the novel and I loved the aspect of romance within a thriller. Lowen and Jeremy’s love story battles with grief and guilt, although some will say adultery of any kind is bad, this kind made me feel some type of way;)
In my opinion, Colleen Hoover cannot write a bad book. My only things that give this 4 stars instead of 5, is that there is just so much confusion at the end of the novel. Did she actually do it? Did she pretend to be comatose only because she feared Jeremy or because her guilt motivated her too? I also wish that Jermey’s grief was addressed more. He lost both of his daughters and his wife had written a manuscript confessing to one of the murders, fake or not. I also wish Verity had been more evil in actuality. I craved the jaw dropping climax where she preyed on Lowen and hurt her in some way. Other than that, Hoover gives the perfect romance/thriller novel with a dash of trauma and grief ;)
