I cannot overstate how much I loved this book. I was given the opportunity to read an arc from NetGalley and I will absolutely be buying this one for my personal collection.
It has fae. An enchanted library. The entire cast is people of color. You have high stakes and tense situations. It is beautiful. The only reason it isn’t a 5 is that some parts were distracting. A world of magic and horses with medieval style tech, but they know about adrenaline? Some of the dialogue was a little off, definitely a first novel.
But it was great and enjoyable. And I will read this one again and again.
I feel like content wise this is closer to a 2.5 or 3. However the lack of trigger warnings in the book or in the description or in the author’s multiple TikTok promotion is reprehensible. Sa on page. Physical abuse. On page. Torture that causes a miscarriage on freaking page. But zero trigger warnings. Irresponsible.
The story itself is fine. It’s an action read. Quick paced. If you enjoy dark romances AND don’t care that the trigger warnings aren’t presented to you so you go in virtually blind, this maybe the book for me.
For me. This author is now in a no read list due to this stunt. Luckily I was in a good headspace when I picked up the book.
