Loved this!! What a fun read. Good on the writing to make me actually laugh aloud at points. Jokes land and work well to keep the action light. Ready for the sequel and now more excited to finally read their other book, Iron Widow

I enjoyed the sense of foreboding but found the vignettes too disconnected and confusing. There’s potential here with the dystopia presented but the chapters seem to meander around without much stakes it feels at times. As the book went on, stakes felt they went down?? There are a lot of details I feel are purposeful left vague but this hurts my ability to follow characters. One character I thought was dead came up in the next chapter and so then I was like are we in the past? I couldn’t keep track of what was happening a lot of the time.

WOW

What an incredible follow up to Black Sun!! I’m hooked as ever and ready for the next one. The characters continue to be vibrant and feel so alive thanks to Roanhorse’s incredibly beautiful writing.

I’m curious to see how she writes a war novel. I haven’t read many books with epic battle scenes  that I can remember. Those I do were not really engaging for me BUT I trust Roanhorse to do a stellar job. May Serapio and Xiala reunite 😩😩😩

Eagerly awaiting more!!!

I’m not typically one to pick up YA. We are reading this in my 9th grade class. The ending was worthwhile but left me with some unanswered questions. The parts that were wrapped up were done in a way that doesn’t suggest a sequel so these unanswered questions and plot lines seem more of a bummer. Overall easy to read and a refreshing mystery. The author left clues throughout which felt good to find as the reader.

I love love LOVED this book! What an epic. The characters feel so real and the plot continued to leave me wanting more.

The writing is so beautiful and word choice always feels intentional. The story is so beautifully constructed to build to a well worth finale.

Couldn’t help myself and got the sequel immediately. Cant wait to dive into it (BUDDY READ!!)
