Darker than expected and loved it! Very twisty, loved the way the woods themselves were a character.

I freaking loved it. I loved the years long back and forth between the characters, the slow build to the inevitable, the obstacles they came across.

And it had this quote which struck me right in the feels:

For a moment, the whole scene struck him as exquisitely beautiful and significant in a way that he couldn't explain.

I finished it, but it gave me the ick at times with the age gap and how sexually thirteen year old Ailenor was portrayed.

The voice actor grated on me with their i n c r e d I b l y  s l o w  narration and a "french" accent that made me grimace.

Definitely won't be reading on.

Different strokes for different folks though. As much as I'm usually a fan of medieval romance and political intrigue this didn't do it for me.

What a blast from the past! This was the first romance I ever read, aged just 11.
