This is a difficult one to rate. Innovation wise I would give it a 5/5. The characters are so real and problematic, Bechdel does an amazing job portraying the imperfect sides of lesbians and the hypocrisy of the transphobia and biphobia shown by some (most) of the characters. (I imagine it was intended this way and the author themselves isn't bi/transphobic) At the same time I couldn't get past the way some political topics were (or were not) discussed. The "always vote Democrat no matter what" mindset and the discourse around Palestine were a little off. I'm still giving it 4. 5 stars bc I devoured it and I wish she would publish another similar graphic novel 🥹
Event though certain topics (E.g. politics and similar themes) sometimes felt a little off to me, I still believe this to be a magnificent read. 5 stars + I want more books on C.m. Lucca 🥺
