a terribly beautiful story, something like an old grimm fairytale made modern. Gorgeous, lyrical prose that transports you into the dark magic of the tale— or rather the dark magic of life.

Gorgeous gorgeous writing! Absolutely in love with the atmospheric world building. The best parts of her book were the intricately painted scenes, vivid and lush descriptions and aesthetic plot choices (the ballads, the spirits, etc.) the love story was pretty cute too

basically if magic was technology set in a fantasy world. The magic is built on a system similar to science, mainly reminiscent of computer programming lol. Not really my vibe but still enjoyed it. Valeriaaaa 🤭👀🫶

definitely has potential. The characters and their relationships is the shining star of this book. Their dynamic really jumps out from the page. Hypnos and Laila have my HEART. Love the commentary on harmful patriarchal and European-centric systems and constructs. The magic was cool. I would say the plot was a little hit and miss for me at times, it felt like it just needed more time and better planning to gain its footing. Sets up the rest of the series really well though! Looking forward to reading the next book.
