a fun and adventurous sequel filled with dragons, a quest to the underworld and a lovely continuation of the sapphic relationship!

this was fine?? like so painfully mediocre that i’m upset by it. there was so much potential but it was never realised, and the ending borderline annoyed me because it just felt unfinished :(

this was cute but i’m going to be honest it didn’t add anything and i wish it would have added some more actual background on david and rhys?? like it just felt a bit useless in terms of expanding the characters

A queer, action-packed heist with angst and an intriguing magic system!

This was funny and filled with charming characters, engaging prose and a group of characters working on a heist that will change their lives. Whilst the magic system is unique and entertaining, it was far too complex for the length of the book - i was confused more often than not and struggled to understand everything that was going on, which meant that moments that should have held more importance fell flat as i wasnt able to feel it. The book would 100% benefit from with a guide/page on the magic system and how the different colours work.

I loved the pre-established friend goup, but i do feel like we didnt learn enough about them and the individual friendships. my heart goes out to Cemmy, she was struggling with so much on her plate and wasn't treated very well which did make me like the other characters less. The secrets added angst and tension, which definitely helped heighten the tension, from the beginning we know that something has happened but the truth only comes out at the end.

The queer relationships were more in the background, but i did really love reading about them. I have mixed feelings on the romance, the timeframe of the heist itself is quite short which makes me not like the romance as much, there's no way that it could feel natural which took away from it. i did love them together but wish that it had been more gradual, which i also feel would be better for the plot anyways as it would have made more sense.

Nightstrider: A Mesmerizing Epic Dark Fantasy by Sophia Slade

A dark and gripping multi-pov political fantasy!

the magic system and world in this were super cool to read about! all the different worlds and characters interacting made for a tension filled atmosphere. the multi-pov narrative and world were so intriguing and i would love to see it even more developed in any following books!! the cast of characters was so lovely, a mix of moral views and experiences, furthering an expansion of the world seeing all these different world views

the characters were all fun to follow, but i felt like both the personal development and character relations between each other were too rushed, it felt like one moment they hated each other and the next they both had a crush on each other?? i really struggled to want the characters to get together, especially since there is at least one book to follow this - i would have enjoyed seeing them together in the next book as there was a lack of genuine growth and reasoning for the characters to like each other

The Thirteenth Child by Erin A. Craig

the thirteenth child is a dark, twisted and compelling story following hazel, the goddaughter of death who is a healer

this felt reminiscent of a fairytale, and seeing hazel grow into a woman who understands the reality of the world she lives in was so beautiful, she feels so real and fleshed out and was so lovely to read about it. the world is dark and almost spooky, making for an atmospheric read that would be perfect for autumn!

if you’re looking for a book with death, magic, secrets, a healer and a sweet romantic subplot, this is for you!!
