Here we go, back to the best that Alex Verus can be: stretching Alex in new ways. Politician. Man in love. Leader of his little band. Cautious and brave and empathetic.

A book where Alex's life gets turned upside down, and I didn't care enough about any of it. The magic and plot are interesting and I enjoy these characters, but it missed my heartstrings.

Read like a movie. By which I mean it jumped from beat to beat without connecting them enough. Didn't give enough of the tone of the scenes to understand the emotional landscapes of the characters.

Did I say this series was getting stale? Just kidding! This book shakes things up phenomenally. I both wanted to cheer for Alex and worry for him as he chases powerups and gets closer to the dark side.

An intensely fairytale book.
Slow in most of it, which was hard to get through. Atmospheric but I didn't particularly get hooked by the atmosphere there.
A book about GIRL POWER, in the best way. About girls making their own decisions, and fighting against decisions made for them, and saving the kingdom through their wit and spunk.
However, I still didn't connect with our protagonists or their struggles.
