I don’t usually read books like this, but I have to say it was much better than I was expecting. Kalanithi is intelligent, thoughtful, and above all intimately connected to life, death, and what makes us human.

3.5 rounded up, some stuff I think could’ve been given a bit more attention, especially Joe’s character. I basically hated him the whole time but I feel like with more nuance he could’ve been more sympathetic and also just more impactful as a person. kala also felt way too idealized at times, though I think this might have been deliberate. but overall this was really impressive actually and I liked it a lot. it wasn’t really following a cookie cutter template for a mystery, which is so refreshing.
