Accountable: The True Story of a Racist Social Media Account and the Teenagers Whose Lives It Changed by Dashka Slater

I am conflicted in how I feel about this book. On the one hand, it is important to see the ways social media can be used to bully others and how difficult it is to monitor. It was also good, but hard, to see how it affected those who were bullied. It will definitely lead me to have conversations with my kids about their online behavior.

However, I think the book spent WAY too much time focusing on the perpetrators of the bullying. I understand what happened was nuanced and may not have been entirely malicious in intent and what happened to the boys afterwards was definitely taken too far. But when talking about racism I feel like the focus should be given more to the victims than the perpetrators.

A great conclusion to a most addictive series that is full of drama, pettiness, conniving, and American royalty.

I wanted to like this more than I did. And I definitely know it was a me problem. The Nordic fairy tale this is based on has always been one of my least favorites. I also felt like this was rushed and I wanted to spend more time in each section getting to know the setting and characters in a deeper way.

I don't know how to rate this. It didn't keep my attention much, and the story for quite a while seemed all over the place. By the end I finally saw it get more focused and steady, and then it was over.

A fantastic sequel!

Kiva drove me crazy at times, but I'm definitely dying for the next book!

I loved the book Cog by Greg Van Eekhout, so I was looking forward to trying this new one by him. Unfortunately, it wasn't my thing. Cannibalistic zombies, incompetent adults (although to be fair, this is addressed later on).

The general idea intruiged me, and the humor really redeemed it a little bit for me. It was so silly. But I wouldn't read it again and I won't be recommending it to my kiddos. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Read with my almost six year old and we both laughed all the way through. There are jokes for adults, jokes for little kids, and everywhere in between. We've already started book two!
