Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson

Reread 2024:
I read this book years ago and remember loving it then.
Well this time I loved it again! Hattie, a 16-year-old orphan, gets willed some land in Montana by her uncle. The catch? He was trying to stake his claim on the land, so she had to meet all the requirements to prove up the land in order to keep it.
My goodness, this book has so much heart. Hattie and her little community are so easy to cheer for.
All of this set near the end of the first world war makes for an absolutely amazing read. I'm recommending it to my ten-year-old who has been loving these kinds of books lately.

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
Not rating this yet because I listened to the audio and I feel like I missed A LOT. I will be reading it again as a physical book because I think with more attention this will be something I really enjoy!
Since We've No Place to Go by Kate Watson

This was such a fun Christmas romance! It had everything I've grown to love in a Kate Watson rom com. Witty banter, emotional depth, humor, and a sweet, closed door romance. This particular book also included other tropes like sports romance (baseball), forced proximity, loathe to love, cheerful Christmas activities, and more!
Liesel and Cooper were both great characters and I loved getting chapters from, both perspectives!
Thank you to Kate Watson for the digital ARC of this book. Lal thoughts and opinions are my own!

This was some of the purpliest prose I have ever encountered. Good heavens, it was exhausting. Add to that so many handfuls of F-bombs and other real world profanity as well as modern phrases like, "said no one ever" generously heaped into the book and it was hard to get lost in the fantasy of it all. Also, hated the main character.
If you couldn't tell by now, I did not enjoy what I read of this book and I'm already grumpy because I just know it's going to end up on "best fantasy" lists for this year.
