The last 50 or so pages are a short story and author Q&A, which I didn't know, so it was a bit of a smack in the face when I turned the page expecting another chapter and saw "Epilogue". It's nice book, and it made me giggle a few times, but I would have liked to see a little more depth to it in the end. I felt like there was more to explore with the main characters, and not getting that was quite disappointing.
I absolutely cannot stand the narration of this book. I flipped through to several later chapters (including some near the very end of the book) to see if it’d improve, but the main character seems to remain insufferable (derogatory) throughout.
This book is trying way too hard to be funny not just in every sentence, but also by adding a load of unnecessary babbling that adds nothing to the story at every ill conceived opportunity. Pity, since it’s been waiting on my shelf for four years.
I wasn't super into this for the first half, and at some point considered dropping it. I'd seen a lot of praise but I'm familiar with litrpg and thought the praise must have been from people less aware of the genre. As the story progressed into its second half, however, the plot thickened and I got really sucked into some of the mystery elements of what exactly is going on and why. Definitely going to listen to the second book!
