Interesting world building, fun little mystery. Short and worth the read. Will probably check out the next one.

3.5 stars rounded up for brown girls falling in love and no third act breakup or miscommunication!

But only 3.5 stars because it was slow to start and even though it seems like the trope is rivals to lovers it's more second chance romance than anything else, which is not generally my jam. But this was better than a lot of other contemporary romance so it was still a win!

Love the thai mythology base, loved the characters. This book had found family, demon hunting, kick boxing princess, bad ass hedge withes, funny moments, necromancers. What more could I want??

The characters were adults but it still felt a touch YA to me.

I disliked so much about this book.
First, if you had a fucked up childhood DO NOT ignore the trigger warning. There is MAJOR trauma dumping. Like, oof.
Second, author's last name is Jimenez, little people on cover are brown. Only white people in this book. Turns out author is Greek and that's a married name (this didn't effect the rating, i learned this after reading but I was disappointed and people who try to read diversely should know)
Third, I know I abandoned you but it was only to deal with my abandonment issues so it doesn't count!
Fourth, giving a character even one flaw makes them more interesting than an absolutely perfect flawless character. Justin could've been a cardboard cutout of a man shaped that just has Perfect Man written on it in black sharpie.

Bro. I could go on. I haven't even gotten to the ISSUES yet but this is already too long and if I go on I'm going to drop the rating to a two. I can feel it.
