This book took me a month to finish because it didn't grab me in a way where I was itching to pick it up. There were too many, "Well, isn't that convenient," moments, I was lukewarm toward Isla's POV, and I was disappointed there wasn't more interaction with the villain. I also don’t think the first person narration worked in this book. But it's a decent read with some enjoyable moments.
(As an aside, do not go into this expecting a horror novel - I'm confused as to how it got shelved as horror.)

An interesting idea that was quietly revealed throughout the book, but unfortunately that's all it was for me. The book was too quiet and the characters too one-dimensional leaving me bored. I wanted more.

This book seemed like it was two different books in one. In the first half we see what happens in a country where people no longer die. I found it interesting thinking about the ramifications and the toll this would take on society. The second half of the book is about Death and a...mistake?... she tries to fix. I think this shift was needed in order to keep the book going without getting terribly boring. But overall it was wordy and rambled on.

I think this was my favorite book in the Wayfarers series. I loved the characters and their interactions felt authentic. The way the characters learned about one another and unpacked their xenophobia felt genuine and not forced. Such a feel good book.
